Chelsea have made £100million in the last three years
from selling players who have made 10 or fewer league appearances for
them… Nathan Ake was the latest out of the talent factory:
Chelsea have in some cases quadrupled their investment on fringe players
Club are clever in how they go about their business through use of loan system
Patrick Bamford did not appear in Premier League for Blues before being sold
Chelsea are in line to spend £125m on a hat-trick of transfers as part of outlay
Chelsea know how to manage the market.
From
Mohamed Salah's £39million transfer to Liverpool, for example, they are
expected to receive £2.7m because of a clause that allows them 10 per
cent of Roma's profit.
Salah did, at
least, appear 13 times in the Premier League for Chelsea before being
sold to Roma for £12m in 2016. The same cannot be said for several
others.
Chelsea received £2.7million from Mohamed Salah's £39m transfer to Liverpool last month
Patrick Bamford was allowed to leave for Middlesbrough in another £6million deal
Since 2014-15, Chelsea have sold £97.4m worth of talent with 10 or fewer league appearances.
With
certain add-ons, such as the £4m that can be added to Patrick Bamford's
£6m move to Middlesbrough, that can rise to well over £100m.
Bamford did not appear once in the Premier League for the Blues before being sold. He was not the only one.
Seven
players sold in the last three seasons by Chelsea left with zero league
appearances to their name for the champions. That includes Christian
Atsu (sold to Newcastle United for £6.2m), Papy Djilobodji (Sunderland,
£8m) and Thorgan Hazard (Borussia Monchengladbach, £6m).
Chelsea failed to secure Dominic Solanke to a new deal but received a compensation fee
Chelsea's technical director Michael Emenalo has been astute with the use of the loan system
