Crusaders 3-12 British and Irish Lions: Owen Farrell kicks four penalties as Warren Gatland's side bounce back in impressive style after defeat by the Blues

This was the statement victory that the Lions needed, if not quite the statement performance. Warren Gatland's side shut down the unbeaten Super Rugby leaders to reignite their tour.
The bare details are that Owen Farrell's four penalties were enough to propel the British and Irish side to a win which will do wonders for squad morale, in the aftermath of the midweek defeat to the Blues in Auckland. There were no tries to show for a lot of attacking pressure as the Lions again lacked a ruthless, clinical streak in their opponents' 22, but they needed a positive result to lift morale in the ranks and that is what they got.
On Sunday, the tourists will travel further south to Dunedin in good heart. This was a highly dangerous fixture – widely billed the unofficial 'fourth Test' – and the outcome cannot be understated. The Crusaders have swept aside all-comers this season, with 14 successive victories, but they were utterly neutralised and subdued by the Lions' monumental defensive efforts.
