Indigenes of Ibeju Lekki also produce brooms, coconut oil and palm oil from the abundant coconut and palm trees that grow along the coastline.
The traditional institution of Authority which is still highly revered by the indigenes, is male dominated and patriarchal in nature. Leadership is vested in the Council of Obas and Chiefs, headed by the Onibeju, who is the chairman.
Historically, the Onibeju had been the administrative head of all communities that make up of the old Ibeju district, long before the incursion of the colonial masters. He has therefore maintained his chairmanship of the Council of Obas and Chiefs in Ibeju Lekki to date.
Ibeju Lekki is perhaps the fastest growing Local Government in Lagos State, because of the recent citing of the Export Free Trade Zone, which include both air and sea ports along its corridor by the Lagos State Government.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
A woman is a unique indispensable entity, a precious gem, whose presence can brighten the world without sweat. Her strength never lies in her muscles but in her heart. The mother of all living creatures adorned with beauty and crowned with grace and elegance.
Saddening it is that this fully endowed gender highly spoken of in the previous paragraph has been subjected to different kinds of abuse and violence from time immemorial from the opposite sex, same sex and even the society in general. Violence against women is a cankerworm that has eaten deep into fabric of the society. Violence ranging from those perpetrated by individuals such as rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment, coercive use of contraceptives, female infanticide, which happens to be a deliberate extermination of new-born female children, and is closely related to sex selective abortion, which has to do with termination of a pregnancy based on the predicted sex of the infant. It also includes female genital mutilation which happens to be a barbaric practice that is widely accepted in many parts of the world but due to enlightenment and government policies, it has been declared outlawed in some parts of the world. There are also violent practices condoned by the state such as war rape and sexual slavery. Violence against women is neither new or news in our society but it is so disheartening to know that most people are not equipped with the knowledge of its causes and how to deal with this esteem eroding phenomenon.
Nothing just happens, there has to be a reason for its occurrence. One of the reasons women are victims of violence at the societal level is due to the unequal participation of women in the economic, societal and political aspects in the society. This creates a psychological gap and makes the female gender feel inadequate.
At the community level, the general mindset held by the inhabitants also contributes immensely to the level of violence women are exposed to. The general mindset that men are above women, and they should submit themselves no matter what, to the whims and caprices of the male gender worsen the situation. In the African society in particular, neighbours are not expected to intervene when a wife is being beaten by her husband. Here also, reporting a rape case would be discouraged and would be seen as a disgrace instead of an avenue to seek justice. As Wole Soyinka aptly stated a man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny. Women have also contributed to this roaring monster that has broken, shattered and frustrated their ego and self worth to a zero level by keeping quiet. If one cannot speak for oneself, I wonder who else will. Women have to be ready to abandon the archaic belief that they are the cause of everything going wrong in their matrimonial homes and stand up to defend themselves by reporting to agencies established to protect the rights of women as regards to violence.
The handkerchief to dry the tears that have smeared many beautiful faces is not farfetched. To start with, women have to be ready to defeat the spirit of fear and develop themselves educationally and in informal skills to boost their ego and self worth. The agencies established to protect women and girls that are victims of violence should be made to be on their toes and do their job with high level of enthusiasm. Statistics has also proven that women are mostly abused by their close relatives. It is required of women to set boundaries and ensure that they are respected. Girls who have been victims of sexual harassment have to take this point seriously.
I would like to conclude this piece with a few words of encouragement and writing from the second person point so I will be making use of ‘you’. The fact that you have been abused does not make you less human. You have to be ready to kill the pain and break through all forms of obstacles and use them as stepping stone.

Jurgen Klopp hints at first-choice left-back role for “outstanding” Andrew Robertson
Jurgen Klopp has hailed Liverpool’s third signing of the summer, Andrew Robertson, and suggested the Scot could serve as his first-choice left-back.
The Reds confirmed Robertson’s arrival in a deal worth up to £10 million on Friday, with the 23-year-old signing a long-term contract.
Robertson has made a significant step up from relegated Hull City, and before that Dundee United, but proved during his time in the Premier League that he is capable of shining.
With converted midfielder James Milner operating as Klopp’s starting left-back last season, and Alberto Moreno expected to leave this summer, Robertson could arrive as Liverpool’s new first choice.
And speaking on Robertson’s move to Merseyside, Klopp hinted that this could well be the case, saying Milner “can play most positions on the football pitch.”
“This addition gives us fantastic competition in the left full-back position now,” he told LiverpoolFC.com.
“Obviously, James Milner did very well for us last season there and can play most positions on the football pitch.
“Alberto Moreno looks really good in pre-season and we have Jon Flanagan back, who can play left or right full-back.
“This signing strengthens us at full-back and I’m really pleased about this.”
Robertson is a natural left-back, who was one of Marco Silva’s standout stars at Hull last season, and, crucially, is also left-footed.
While Milner certainly proved adept at the role in 2016/17, Klopp’s words suggest he could be used in a utility role in the upcoming campaign, with Liverpool fighting on four fronts.
Whether Robertson makes the transition immediately, after joining midway through pre-season, remains to be seen, but Klopp believes he has acquired a young player able to progress at Anfield.
“For Andrew this is another big step on what has been a quite incredible personal journey in a very short space of time,” he added.
“I love his story; where he has come from professionally to reach this point.
“When you speak to him it is clear why he makes his progress. He has a burning love for playing football—he really loves the game.
“His attitude is outstanding, absolutely outstanding. His talent and skills—also very, very good.
“He has experience of this competition, the Premier League, and he has the mentality and quality to get even better.
“I know our environment will benefit him and help him push himself even more than he has already. This is a player who does not limit his ambition, I think.”
Robertson is likely to make his first appearance for Liverpool during the pre-season tour of Germany, potentially against Hertha Berlin on July 29.

Liverpool’s most unassuming signing of the summer, Andrew Robertson’s £8 million move to Merseyside has largely been welcomed by supporters.
